There are a few combat-related achievements and 2 collectible-based achievements: "scan all items for the encyclopedia" and "craft all upgrades". There isn't much off-path exploration since the game is fairly linear, but you can fast-travel back to previous locations. It can be finished in less if you rush through the game. You explore different environments while sucking up. Personally it took me around 6 hours to complete the game and unlock all achievements. The Gunk lets you explore an alien planet that is plague by you guessed it, a mysterious gunk like fluid. You can also scan items like plants, enemies and resources to learn more about your surroundings. The Gunk 25 at Xbox (Xbox & PC) Bottom line: The Gunk is a satisfying puzzle-adventure game where two down-on-their-luck space scrappers must help save an alien planet from a destructive. There is also some light resource gathering involved which helps you unlock certain upgrades like sprinting, better healing and a decoy device which felt somewhat useless. Some gunk infested areas also include some combat but it's rather easy and clearly not the focus of the game. Personally I would have wished to find more intricate and memorable puzzles involving the gunk, but it only boils down to clearing your path or a room from it. A reoccurring theme is to clean up certain areas from the gunk with the help of your power glove which apparently can soak up an infinite amount of gunk. The light platforming is combined with Zelda-like environmental puzzle solving. ![]() The game runs smoothly on an Xbox Series X, but I'm concerned if it's the same on the less powerful Xbox consoles since it's running on Unreal Engine 4 which is quite heavy for older hardware. Luckily, we have prepared for you more than 15 games similar to The Gunk in terms of genre, gameplay, and visuals. I also enjoyed the soundtrack at certain points, it complements each moment well. Rani learns that the planet is infested by a black goo-like gunk and whenever she soaks up the dark fluid with her power glove it restores the nature and beauty of the area.
